Industrial Additives
For industrial applications there is a broad spectrum of additives, including:
- Hydraulic
- Metal Working
- Gear
- Turbine
- Greases
Of the above products the original equipment suppliers and standard organisation set the specifications.
Hydraulic additives
For the hydraulic oils the BRB has additives that meet DIN 51524, General Motors, Denison, Vickers, Cincinaati, US Steel etc.
Industrial Gear additives
These additives are used under diverse operation conditions and a variety of end uses. The minimal performance requirements are extreme pressure (EP) performance and rust, corrosion and oxidation resistance n the presence of water, contaminants and high temperatures. The US224 specification is one of the world’s most recognised specification.
Metal Working Fluids
These additives are used to produce the soluble oils for cutting, milling and grinding metals. Depending on the substrate to be modified and cut one needs a different product. Standardisation or performance requirements have not been achieved in the metal working field-testing. Petrolad 5608 is one of the most applied packages for production of soluble oils.
Turbine Oil additives
In Europe there is a significant increase in the use of turbines (windmills and water power). As most of the turbines are designed for long life application there is a high requirement and severe testing required achieving top class lubricant additives.
Greases
In most cases where liquid lubricants cannot be used it is best to apply grease. It is easy to apply and requires little maintenance. The main properties of grease are that it stays in place, provides sealing and extra film thickness. Additives in grease used are antioxidants, rust inhibitors, extreme pressure agents, anti wear agents, polymers and solids.
