Marine
The marine market is a growing market for lubricants, additives and chemicals. Lubrication of large marine engines is a challenge that requires specialty additives. But also chemical cleaners to clean the deck and machinery are widely used in this industry, as well as corrosion preventers and salt spray protectors to keep painted surfaces from corroding.
There are 2 main type of engines being used in ships today:
- Two-cycle, slow-speed crosshead engines, which require a marine cylinder lubricant (MCL) that is injected into the cylinder during operation and a system oil that lubricates the crankcase
- Four-cycle, medium speed trunk piston engines, which require a single lubricant, commonly known as a trunk piston engine oil (TPEO), because they have a common sump for the cylinder and crankcase
On top of lubricants for engines, a wide range of chemical products are used to prevent corrosion, protect against salt spray and clean equipment/decks. BRB has a wide range of products for use in the Marine market.
